Lady Liberty
October 28th, 2008 | By patti-kgmi in My Personal Commentary | 5 Comments »I care about the United States of America, the land that I love. Lady Liberty is her name and she is a friend of mine. Try to think of her as a person for just a few moments. She has been free for close to 250 years. She has not had her hands tied behind her back, she has not had her purse stolen, she has been positive regardless of her ups and downs (boy has she had her share), she doesn’t have to justify herself to anyone because she acts with her heart and her conviction. She has not had to have someone take care of her because she can be stubborn (remember she is passionate); she has been a friend to those around the world that needed a friend when nobody else cared and when others walked away. She is strong, she is independent and she is so proud of the men and women that have sacrificed for her freedom to be anything and everything she wants to be; but mostly for the freedom she has each and every single day to do as she pleases. She changes her mind, she has perspective and has demonstrated unconditional love; even to those that have tried to harm her. She is a forgiving person for she knows that nobody is perfect. She knows she is free and that freedom has come at a price; yet that price is one she could never afford…many gave their lives for it. She does not take for granted her freedom…even though she has had the luxury of not ever knowing what it is to be without it. Lady Liberty has only one obligation…to be a constant reminder of all the great things she stands for, what she has and what she wants for ME…the same things. Lady Liberty is a friend and I like her just the way she is; she doesn’t need to change for me. Why would I want to disrobe her, cut up the fabric of patriotism and The Constitution that she has been proudly draped in and sew it into something that she doesn’t want to wear?
How do you feel?
