Limbaugh…a Rush to judgement

January 29th, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Show Topics | 10 Comments »

Yesterday we talked about Obama’s dilike for Rush.  I am not an avid listener, yet I have checked out some of the facts he has presented before; he has been correct!  What is your take on Rush?  Do you think he is just entertainment or more than that? Do you think the media is “in the tank”?

WASL & Washington State Schools

January 22nd, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Show Topics | No Comments »

Do you think the WASL should be replaced?  Also, I read a story in Time magazine this past Fall that I think is worth reading.  The new Chancellor of Education for Washington D.C. is shaking things up a bit.  I like many of her ideas that she has implemented; you thoughts…

Gitmo, what to do…

January 21st, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Show Topics | 5 Comments »

Today we talked about the fact that Obama wants to close Guantanamo Bay.  What should we do with these people?  Their own countries don’t even want them back.  Is there a solution?  Joe thinks we should put them through the same judicial process as citizens of the US or give them the same rights.  I have a serious problem with that.  I do not agree with the tactics that have been used, but I certainly supprt our military tribunal process.  I often wonder about these “legal experts” that put their spin on things.  What’s your take?

Inauguration Day, your thoughts…

Tomorrow is the day that Barack Obama will sworn in as the 44th President of The United States of America.  What are your feelings, what are your thoughts and what are your hopes for this incoming president?

The Scale, should you use it or lose it?

January 19th, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Fit Club | No Comments »

This week Zack had a great tip that I think everyone should try.  Get rid of the scale…or at least for the first month or two.  Often we will become obsessed with the number and that can lead to self doubt or give a false sense “lack of progress”.  Many times we can actually gain weight when we first begin a new training program.  Muscle weighs more than fat.  I know, we have all heard the saying; but it’s true!  You can actually lose inches and even drop pant sizes yet on the scale the number will show you have gained.  So, to not get off track just put the scale away or better yet give it to someone that will keep it for you until it is time to bring it out.  WHo knows, that time could never happen depending on how the clothes are fitting and how you are feeling inside and out.

Happy Days and Parties…Today It’s Doom & Gloom

January 15th, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Show Topics | 2 Comments »

Yesterday we talked on the morning show about the Governor’s big party at the Capitol to celebrate the fact she got to keep her job.  Today, she tells us to prepare for doom and gloom.  It is going to be as bad a the Great Depression she says.  I feel she is out of touch with the people of her state, including the teachers she promised raises to (no matter what circumstances).   Do you agree with me or not and why?  Did you think the party should have even happened?

Fit Club Tip for the Week

January 12th, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Fit Club | No Comments »

I have to be honest, this week I have been feeling some of the pains of a forty plus year old getting into shape and making permanent life changes.  Zack had some great tips on the show Saturday that anyone can use when you have sore muscles after a workout.

1. Water intake.  aMake sure you are drinking enough water.  No soda, coffee, tea, etc.  Good fresh, H20!  64 - 80 oz is what you want to consume across the day; never all at once! I am now carrying my waterbottle everywhere.

2. A Hot Bath.  What better way to rewards yourself and to have a real excuse to get a few moments to yourself by taking a bath.  It will help with the muscle soreness.

3. L-Glutamine (supplement).  This is a great supplement that aids in muscle recovery and repair.  (I had never heard of it until Zack eduated me. I am learning something new every single day.)

Remember you can always go to The Morning Show and listen back to our Saturday shows to hear all the great tips that can help you on the journey to health and well being.

WWU Football, 100 year tradition gone?

January 12th, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Show Topics | 2 Comments »

Bruce Sherpard, the new Presidnet of WWU has decided to end the football program after 100 years.  It has been losing money for five years and nobody in the public (alumni, donors, etc.) was aware of this situation.  Should we dump the athletic director for poor management and give this program a chance to turn things around or was the right call made?  Would love to hear tour thoughts…

Fit Club…our road to success!

photo of Daniell and Patti Week 1

We are into our full fitness program.  We both went on vacation the week of Christmas but we still worked out everyday.  Speaking of working out, we are doing cardio three days a week for 35 minutes along with stretching and core exercises.  I had ho idea that I could not balance on a ball…while sitting!  We have also been meeting with our trainers from Fitness Gear and Training (Jason and Krista).  I can speak for both of us when I say that we hurt the next day, but not in the way where you feel like you don’t want to go back.  For the first time in my life, I can honestly say that I could visibly see a physical difference in just two training session.  I am a week ahead of Danielle on the nutrition end of the program, but we both made a commitment to start eating as healthy as possible the day the contest was over and our journey together began.  Water, water, water is the word for me.  I carry my nalgene bottle EVERYWHERE.  82 oz a day is where I am currently.  We also met with Carrie Stone of Want More Health and she put me on this incredible program.  I am one week into a 30 day detoxification plan.  Carrie listened to some of my health concerns, history and symptoms and how I was feeling physically.  She suggested that I take all gluten out of my diet just as a sort of test.  Kid you not, I have already dropped a pant size in the waist! I am excited about health and I just want to read everything I can get my hands ons!

We will continue to share our journey on the road to permanaent healthstyle changes!  If you have any gluten free stories or recipes, please share them with us.

P.S. - I am down 7, count ‘em SEVEN POUNDS!!!!  YEAH!!!
