How do I work with Joe?
August 18th, 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Uncategorized | 7 Comments »It has been a while since I sat down and wrote a full blog on my page I was thinking I was due. I would apologize but I have been very busy and it does happen to be summer. Therefore, I would much rather spend my time outside enjoying this beautiful place where I live than sitting here looking at a computer screen with writers block.
It seems that whenever I am out and about or at a road show I get the same two questions over and over. Number one question is always… `is Joe for real or is it a put on’? Number two question…`how do you go in there every day and do your job?’. Well, it can get old answering those questions again and again. This is my attempt to answer both of those questions once and for all. In order to do that, I have to give some background (history) about Joe and myself.
I first met Joe at a staff meeting a couple weeks after starting at KGMI. He had great ideas and was actually pretty funny. Many times he would refer to his `beauty’ while talking about his family when he would bring them up in a conversation. I was all too embarrassed to ask if this person had a name. Fast forward a few months. I finally realized the `beauty’ Joe was always talking about was his wife Laurie Michaels from our sister station KISM. Proud to say I knew who she was on air because she was a big part of my morning ritual. O.k., so I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer because I didn’t put the two of them together, but you have to remember that I only work at the station for an hour and a half a day. Having six brothers and growing up around men, I always have the utmost respect for those of the opposite gender that speak with high regard when talking about the women in their lives. Joe falls into that class.
It was about eight months after I started the show with Brett Bonner that I decided to take a vacation. It was during that vacation that I received a phone call from Jacqueline Cartier (Program Manger) telling me that Brett had decided to hang up his headphones. With the announcement of the news I immediately thought I was going to be gone as well. Why after all would they keep me? Jackie said that she pitched the idea of a Morning Show to Joe with me as his co-host…she said he was actually open to the idea. Having only listened to `The Liberal Outpost’ a handful of times, I thought this could be even more enjoyable and entertaining that the current format.
Now, for the answer to those two questions. I have now worked with Joe for close to a year and a half. EVERYONE…Joe is as real as it gets. What you hear is who he is and what he believes in. It is Joe’s convictions that come from his heart that make it easy to sit across from him in the studio. He is real and genuine. Regardless of our differences on every issue from healthcare to Obama, my co-host is real and has no false sense of who he is. Too many people spend their lives being someone else or trying to appease the crowd; while Joe spends his being true to himself and to those most important in his life…Laurie and their children. We both are family people and that is a common bond that makes working with Joe a pleasure. For as tough as his points of view can be for some people to have to listen to; I always remember and hope you will too; that Joe is a father, a brother, a son and most of all an amazing husband to his `beauty’. He wears many hats at the station and at home and never a complaint or ill word does that man speak. I am blessed to share a booth with Joe and I can call him my friend. I truly believe we have a common respect for each other and we both know that it is a privilege to be able to spend an hour each day on the radio and across the net expressing what our convictions are with passion and humor.
Now, as far as how do I do my job every weekday morning? It is as simple as one, two, three. I just bang my head on the wall three times before I step in the studio…that way I know what it going to be like for the next hour. Just kidding!

I think everyone should read about Obama-man’s new Science and Technology Czar - John Holdren. Everything you need to know is in his own words. He co-authored a little book in 1977 ‘Ecoscience”. Can you say Josef Mengele? I know you can!
