Clallam County’s rural zoning upheld; County found to be GMA COMPLIANT!!

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County has won a key battle in its long war over zoning.
The Western Washington Growth Management Act Hearings Board on Tuesday found the county’s rural zoning is valid and compliant with the Growth Management Act.
Moreover, the board found the county’s amended limited areas of more intensive rural development, or LAMRIDs, are compliant.
“My office successfully argued to the growth board that Seattle special interest group Futurewise’s and local group Dry Creek Coalition’s ‘one size fits all’ approach to rural zoning failed to acknowledge the unique, local circumstances in rural Clallam County and ignored this county’s right to control its own future,” Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney Deb Kelly said in a statement.
“This is an unprecedented win for private property owners in Washington state, where county after county in recent years has instead chosen to abandon the battlefield over rural lands and settle for one-dwelling-for-five-acres.”
Futurewise has 10 days to appeal the board’s ruling.
The growth board in April 2008 found that portions of the county’s comprehensive plan didn’t jibe with the Growth Management Act.
Double track response
The county launched a double-track response, enacting interim zoning rules so planners could comply with the 1990 legislation while appealing parts of the ruling in court.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Ken Williams in June reversed the hearings board’s April 2008 finding of GMA noncompliance.
Interim zoning downzoned the county’s rural moderate — lands with one home permitted for every 2.4 acres — to the one-house-per-5-acre rural low.
Innovative techniques
Meanwhile, planning manager Steve Gray and others in the Department of Community Development developed innovative techniques for rural lows previously zoned rural moderate.
With the exception of a LAMRID or commercial forest parcel, the owner of a home in the “rural neighborhood conservation zone” would have these options:
• An overlay option for 11 acres or less. If land within 500 feet of the prope

Patti,
What terrific news! Property owners & businesses can’t let these Futurewise people & Seattle lawyers ramrod their socialistic ‘eco-politics’ down any county’s throat.
Whatcom County, beware - they are trying this type of control here too. What they are trying to do all over the state is disgusting, irresponsible, and criminal towards American’s rights.
These Futurwise’s people and other local ‘green thieves’ that work with them and their twisted logic never ceases to amaze me. What they want is to grab & take control of land and tell people how to live, tell people where they can live, tell people where they can work & how they can work, and they want to tax everything people have to fund their so-called ‘eco’ projects - all for YOUR benefit. Wow.
Why does this sound just like the tactics going on in WA DC right now on the national level? - Because it is.
These underhanded socialistic liberals have the same mindset as those nationally, they use the same tactics, language, attack & marginalize methods, the same talking points, and they use the same Alinksy Rules for Radicals to attempt to get what they want.
Don’t kid yourselves - they know exactly what their end game is and it is all about control and power over others - all under the guise of ‘caring about what is good for YOU and for the environment’.
Don’t you just love it when someone tries to take your land and tax You for YOUR own good?
That is Futurewise and many of these other so-called ‘eco groups’ for ya, all caring for the people and the land. Ya - sure. Can you spell Chuckanut Conservancy for instance? Hmmmm….

Patti,
A friend sent this ruling to me today via email and I was relieved that the Hearing Board ruled the way they did - as it really is for GMA compliance rather than to succomb to irrational pressure from these special interest groups out of Seattle (and elsewhere in the state) that claim all kinds of nonsense in the name of “Climate Change” and pseudo-science.
These green movement types make all kinds of claims and supposed scienticfic deductions, in the name of the environment and ecololgy, without real science and facts to back them up. Their second favorite tactic is to take people to court and use trumped-up lawsuits to intimidate and scare small landowners into capitulation for their landgrabs and socialist mandates. There third favorite tactic is to use ‘articles’ or letters to the editor written by local environmental hacks to verbally attack and ridicule anyone that dares to take an opposing stance or viewpoint in local periodicals, blogs, or newspapers - never mind using facts or real science either - they don’t belive in those - remember this truly IS their religion to them.
So, I have to agree with the guy that posted before me and think he is right on the mark in his assessment of these people. I have listened to and read Futurewise’s pitches. Be wary.
In my opinion, Futurewise’s ulterior motives are detrimental to local homeowners & landowners, farmers, and businesses they are trying to re-zone all over the state. The trend these last few years to yield to the religion of ‘Climate Change’ - and yes ‘Climate Change’ has been ruled as a religion by United Kingdom courts - is absurd and it is about time that real science, facts, land stewardship practices, and laws are adhered to over the irrational claims of these ‘Climate Change’ zealots. They do not want people to live on or to use the land they own - heaven help you if it is adjacent to forests, streams, or lakes!

Ms. Brooks,
Don’tcha just love it when shady Seattlites, special interest groups, and their idiot weenie greenies lawyers get shown the door for interfering in local land use and local owners rights?
I’m a grin’n and a lov’n it!
Those arrogant Futuredumb’s deserved to be tossed out on their liberal & socialist rumps.
Now, how to keep them out of Whatcom…

Guys & Patti,
Well, it looks like I am not the only one following this thing! Congrats CallumCo.!
I just listened to Daniel Hannan (European Parliment) tonight on best environmental practices - one of the things that he said that leads to the best way to have clean air, water, eco-stewardship, and a healthy environment is to encourage and enhance private ownership and property rights. Private owners traditionally care better for their lands than governments. Take note - In other words, the exact OPPOSITE of what the Futurewise people keep touting and pushing around the state.
Looks to me like Futurewise wants more government control, laws, restrictions, regulations, taxes, and punative action on private ownership and people, as well as micro-management of private property. They ultimately don’t want people on the land and want to see a smaller human population using the land. They want to control populations by concentrating humans to their views of a city environ (not yours or mine). Read their writings and these group’s litgation track record - its all there in black and white.
Sound familar? It should, read the n3c periodicals, Chuckanut Conservancy blather, and several other local writings - often written off of the same talking points and often witten by the same authors. It is an incestuous community, these environmental zealots. Funny how they donate to each other’s campaigns too. Also funny how they frequently all have the same lawyers and over-lapping board members too - Hmmm…
These environmental organizations use much of the same enviro/eco-babble that groups like the Sierra Club and one of its off-shoots the NCCC (out of Seattle too) a group that wants much fewer people to no people on the land - check out the NCCC’s (also called n3c or North Cascades Conservation Council) many articles on the subject to return lands to roadless, and consequently peopleless! Where do all of these people/humanity-distainers come from? Funny that they don’t seem to mind their own carbon footprints or having their own kids or pets, isn’t it?
Looks to me like Futurewise’s, n3c’s, Chuckanut Conservancy, and many of these other “environment first at all costs” groups’ views of ecology is likened to a stranglehold type of governmental control over private property and businesses, no doubt about it. Look up the explosion of lawsuits in recent years going into the billions of dollars these groups instigate and spend on litigation - it is astounding.
Anyway, I think Hanan’s approach is right, as is the Callam County ruling of GMA compliance over what these Futurewise and other supposed envirogroups are trying to impose.
Good news for Callam County on their GMA compliance vindication.
Shame on Futurewise, once again!

Scout,
Hey buddy, you got me slapping my thigh ’cause I’ve noticed it too where you said these two things, especially about these guys right here in Whatcom County and the Seattle Socialists connection:
“Funny how they donate to each other’s campaigns too. Also funny how they frequently all have the same lawyers and over-lapping board members too - Hmmm…”
and where you said:
“Where do all of these people/humanity-distainers come from? Funny that they don’t seem to mind their own carbon footprints or having their own kids or pets, isn’t it?”
You said it - they take their camping trips, mountain bikes, and pets out to poop in the woods and call it “an enlightenment”, but if I live in a small cabin by the woods, I need to be thrown out because I am ‘damaging the environment” AND they want to add the insult of charging us whomping taxes for them to play in the gazillion parks they can’t keep up now- what a bunch of hypocrits!

Patti,
Hurray for private property owners, especially in Callam County. I hope this helps Whatcom and surrounding counties too.
The things that Futurewise and the other noxious ‘anti-property rights people’ are pushing around here is worrisome and needs to be stopped.
Several of the posters above already have said much of what I wanted to say, so I’ll just say that I whole-hearted agree with what has already been written here and hope that more property rights issues prevail.
Keep up the property rights fight Whatcom County! Private landowners do take care of their properties and do not want or need outsiders telling them what to do on their own lands.
In fact, tell Futurewise to butt out, our properties are none of their damn business!

How about this, a UK judge ruled that the belief in climate change is a religion - which most of us already figured out - here is the link to the UK article on the ruling:
Subject: UK Judge ruled Climate Change a religion
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/nov/03/tim-nicholson-climate-change-belief
Michael Chriton also wrote a very good article about this before he died (I’ll try to find that again another time to share) saying much the same thing. Look at the stuff Al Gore touts and the millions he makes off the scam; he now is a billionare touting the ‘Climate Change’ which is , in fact a religion - remarkable! Move over Al Sharpton, Billy Graham, & Tulsa’s famed Oral Roberts! You’ve got competition boys!
Oh yes, the climate change scam is not a science, but a religion and Futurewise and many of these other groups, like even our home grown Chuckanut Conservancy nuts, are all selling “environmentalism” as speaking engagements, plans, books, maps, and many of them are taking a few steps further with various regional lawsuits and other attempts at changing zoning laws, land control, and other myriad environmental legislative taxes and controls - all of this based on a religion called “CLIMATE CHANGE”.
Don’t even get me started on Kerry’s & Obama’s Cap & Trade taxing scheme that effects the energy industry.
So, here you have what, something like 35 eco groups in Belligham alone now trying to impose their religion that is dressed up like the environment or ecology ’science’ to pass legislation and controls as fast and furious as they can over citizen’s and the surrounding lands all for “the environment and the good of the people” - when, in fact - they use very little true science for their basis and justification most of the time.
Most of what Gore and the vast majority claim as science is not true science, but in fact, a watery, touchy/feely, sounds good, urban myth junk science (pseudo-science). Their stuff sound good, looks good, and makes one feel like it does good - but it ain’t science!
Look at the stuff coming out of Huxley these days and it just crushes my spirit at what these kids think is science, but is much more akin to pop-culture social studies. They might as well get a degree as a rapper or DJ.
Climate change & green are such a hot buzz topics and labels that every marketer has tapped into the fad and labels for ‘green’ are everywhere - even oil companies are adverstising how green they are too!
Back to Futurewise, and many of these green movement people. By far, their so-called science, is largely fanatical pseudo-science that the pushers claim to be ‘conventional wisdom’ which morstly is based on myth rather than fact. Don’t believe me, just try and test some of these people by asking them to back up their claims with facts and see just how quickly they escalate the exchange into a shouting match or a personal attack. Also look very closely at what they say they are doing and watch what they really do - also telling. It is about money, power, and control.
So, before some eco-nut jumps all over me, back off Jack. As a trained Earth Scientist/geologist, from a reputable institution, and have worked years as a geo-scientist, so I do have a working knowledge to speak about this subject - especially the ‘Global Warming/Climate Change’ topic.
So, when I see something like this thing in Callum County where a eco-religeous landuse & population control type group, such as Futurewise, got tossed out on their ear, I can’t help but laugh and say, “finally someone has seen through the B.S. and made a common sense ruling for fact vs. fiction” . Congratulations Callum County.
Climate change is a religion, not something that is based on empirical science as many a scam artist like Al Gore would have you believe. Same for thethings Futurewise is ’selling’ or that the phony marketing slogan that the Chuckanut Conservancy swiped off a marketing slogan for Maine that says the Chuckanuts are the only place “where the mountains meet the sea”, or some iteration of it they like to say ‘jewel’ alot too. I wonder if the Maine Chamber of Commerce knows the Chuckanut Conservancy & CMPD co-opted the slogan, “Where the mountains meet the sea” ?

Watching Red Eye tonight - one of the lead stories is that a Bristish judge ruled that believing in man caused Climate Change is similar to a religeous belief! Well it is about time someone with an ounce of common sense prevailed - thank you judge!
Ask any ‘greenie’ around here and they will throw a hissy fit when they hear this ruling! I can’t wait for the hullaballo that this ruling will cause around the Food Co-op, especially since so many of them are devout followers of the green religion and ‘believe’ the Climate Change is real and man is ruining the Earth by CO2 poisoning - they live & breathe ‘environmental science’ - oh this WILL be good! My, oh my!
It will probably go something like this:
“But, but, but “CO2 is bad” - Al Gore said so! He did. He said all of the polar bears are dying too and that the seas wil rise and drown all of the puppies because man is so wicked and is producing CO2, so the Earth is dying. But, just what will happen to the trees? Climate change is bad, CO2 is bad, the Earth, the trees, the puppies - ” —-sizzles and crackels are heard, then —–
—– “Pop”, another bubble burst —– and then a strange thing happens —– a clear thought enters the greenie’s head for the first time in many years —- “Oh wait, I forgot, didn’t we learn in grade school that trees and all green plants take up CO2 that we exhale and produce O2, that we then can breathe and live on, and so can all other animals? Oh, now I am sooooo confused, I could have sworn Al Gore said CO2 is bad and man is killing the Earth….” —-”my head really hurts - almost feels like I was brainwashed or something.”
The rest of us all standby on the sidelines watching this and can’t help ourselves, ” Snicker, snicker, snicker, chortle, snicker” - another human saved from their own stupidity!

Two the two Kathys -
I just read the article.
Well, fun while it lasted, but, even though the man-caused climate change ruling is common sense coming up for air (that would be O2) for once, on one hand, it sure opens up a can of worms on the other hand.
Now, the guy that benefitted by the ruling by Justice Michael Burton, Mr. Nicholson, can say his green beliefs are a religion now and can and will sue his former employer for discrimination, loss of his job, and assorted damages for being let go for religeous beliefs yadda yadda yadda - the article said:
“a judge found Nicholson’s views on the environment were so deeply held that they were entitled to the same protection as religious convictions, and ruled that an employment tribunal should hear his claim that he was sacked because of his beliefs”
Can you all even imagine what a field day opportunists and scam artists will do to take advantage of employers for having to adhere to their greenie religeous beliefs?
—–Will Earth Day be a paid holiday like Christmas for instance?
—–Will we have to pray to or have a moment of silence to the curly florescent light bulbs?
—–Will we be required to capitalize the words organic or natural?
—–Will we have to recycle paper clips in their own blue bins on Fridays?
—–Will Christmas wrapping paper be outlawed and only cloth bags be allowed for wrapping gifts for the office gift exchange?
Oh the questions that will bubble up are endless!
My head is going to explode for the mischief and litigation that will come out of this new ruling. One could only hope that the employment tribunal in the UK will use common sense there too, although, I wouldn’t count on it.
Yikes! I better learn to sew to make gift wrap, huh? Christmas is only a few weeks away and all I have is paper gift wrap.

Well, my opinion of Futurewise is that they are just another sorry anti-growth and anti-human group. The evidence is all there for anyone who wants to read it or hear it at their meetings. This is what I have seen:
Futurewise set up a branch camp under their new name ‘Futurewise” in Whatcom County in spring of 2007 and began becoming involved with several already established ‘environmental groups’ - all same tired old vocal, noisy ones that constantly try to push their agendas on everyone else - they have wrapped themselves with all of the same old Hamster ‘pseudo-green’ activists, like the McShanes, Responsible Development and that incestuous group’s multiple south-side ‘parky’ connections such as Chuckanut Conservancy to note a few. Beyond raising money and membership, they say their main goals are to ‘address the pressing GMA issues” - in other words - jack with the county’s zoning, land use, and growth - that to you and me, that means they are determined to impose their will over property owners and property rights.
Futurwise’s mother group used to be called “1000 Friends of Washington” but changed their name a few years ago. They are the lead environmental activist group in Washington state to stop all new development wherever and whenever possible - their activities focus on re-zoning and legislation to prevent development, among other similar things. Again, look at Callam County and see what they have planned for Whatcom.
The Futurewise a local “chapter” was started up by Lincoln Rutter and Greg Kirsch, among a few of the other environmental hypocrites - where they live and work is okay - but not you, not your business or farm or home. Evidence of Futurewise’s hits on zoning and messing with County growth are rampant this past year in Whatcom, let alone what the article above is on what they tried to pull in Callam County.
The members of Futurewise, somehow have decided that their lifestyle choices fit nicely into a more “natural” and “mother-earth-friendly environment” and the rest of us just don’t know any better, so we need to be told what to do.
So, I am in full agreement with the Callam County position, “the growth board that Seattle special interest group Futurewise’s and local group Dry Creek Coalition’s ‘one size fits all’ approach to rural zoning failed to acknowledge the unique, local circumstances in rural Clallam County and ignored this county’s right to control its own future,” .
The key here are the words ‘this county’s right to control its own future”. I seriously hope that Whatcom County follows Callam’s example and does not let itself get pushed around by Futurewise and the people like Lilliquist that are tied in with them.
Whatcom County, be advised, these people mean business of taking control over the county’s growth management – they are aggressive and will be a threat to property rights and freedoms in the name of ‘the future’ as THEY see fit, not you.
They do intend to tell you how you can use your land - or not!
07 November 2009 | Rock Jock Said:
Patti & Gang,
Yesterday I mentioned that Micheal Crichton had also discussed that the environmental movement is really religion and said I would find it for you because it goes well with the UK Judge Micheal Burton’s ruling that the man-caused belief in Climate Change is a religion. I see that others are discussing this too, sorry I missed noticing the first person’s posting of the article of the judge’s ruling before I posted it too - reinforcement is a good thing.
Crichton’s sppech is well written. Here is the link for the speech Michael Crichton gave in SanF, CA fall 2003:
Subject: Michael Crichton Environmentalism as a Religion:
http://www.crichton-official.com/speech-environmentalismaseligion.html
Below is a quote from that speech that states his position and he goes on to explain more quite well and is worth the time to read, especially with all of the strong push on Cap & Tax/Cap & Trade coming at us like a freight train - all under the religion on Climate Change justification as well as local pushes to control zoning and Growth Management by groups like Futurewise.
Here is Crichton’s quote:
“Today, one of the most powerful religions in the Western World is environmentalism. Environmentalism seems to be the religion of choice for urban atheists. Why do I say it’s a religion? Well, just look at the beliefs. If you look carefully, you see that environmentalism is in fact a perfect 21st century remapping of traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and myths. ” - M. Crichton, 2003
So Whatcom & other WA & US citizens, because so many things are beings done now in the name of the 21st religion, called Climate Change and Environmentalism, people need to beware of the legislation and freedom’s being taken away from citizens and attempted to be taken away from citizens and be prepared to fight them.
Ask pointed, factually based, empirical scientifically based questions about any legislation and laws that are proposed by these environmental groups because they are not doing their legislation for you, they are acting to control you. Ask the questions to see if what they are trying to do even makes sense, because often it does not! Look at the Callum County situation and compare it to the same things they are trying to to in Whatcom County. Does this make sense for the citizens? Is it legal? Is it Constitutional? How will it affect your property rights and your way of life and ability to make your livlihood?
Would you allow any other religeous organization to impose laws over you and your lands, or to tax you, or to control your property & way of life, or to tell you where you may live?
Think about it.
