A daunting prospect - let’s float a few reasons from the common man’s point of view.
1. Pure madness - At 2000 plus pages,no one in their right mind should even entertain the idea of passing this bill, mostly unread, in less than one full year of consideration of its final draft.
2. It advances socialism - it is a power grab of control over the common man’s life.
3. It is illegal - it is not in line with the Constitution. Health care is not a right.
4. It cannot be funded - at one trillion plus dollars with the country mired in multi trillion debt overload, there isn’t enough money anywhere to cover these costs.
5. A majority of citizens do not want their present health care messed around.
6. Too many major issues are embedded in it - loss of privacy, loss of doctor patient relationship, inclusion of illegal aliens, doctor’s loss of professional approach affected, seniors are expendable, abortion funding.
[I've made myself totally miserable with this list already ]-
7. Small businesses are directly targetted
8. Ignored viable options - across state line competitive insurance options, ending trial lawyers tort bonanza, medical savings accounts that encourage personal responsibility.
9. Why substitute something vastly inferior to our present system unless you have NOT the best interests of the country at heart?
10. The seeds of this “signature piece of Obama legislation” were sown in the H1 “stimulus” bill which was also unread and not understood.
The whole point of health care reform is that the current system is contributing to our debt and it will be more expensive to do nothing. Read that twice.
What the U.S. DoD spends in 1.5 years would fund this bill for 10 years. America can’t afford it? How about America can’t afford to spend $650 billion a year propping up unstable countries and building missile shields half way around the world! We could have replaced the Iraq war with years of health care for the poor in this country. Helping sick Americans instead of killing strategically chosen foreigners? That’s not the American way.
This government spends shameful amounts of money, why does it suddenly become a flaming, unholy injustice when they decide to spend it on our own poor and underprivileged? It’s not very patriotic of ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ to let millions of fellow Americans suffer without basic medical care.
Your whole point, Peter, is a misguided but convenient cover for those with “bleeding hearts” syndrome. This country has been propping up the poor for several decades now and what has it gained? The poor are still poor and billions have been spent enabling them instead of empowering them. You do realize don’t you that you are being softened up by all this compassionate pap to accept total government control over your life. Your statement that government spends money shamefully has merit, but if you would just remember your Constitution, the primary purpose of the government is the defense of the country, which means spending on defense, so be it. Much of medical cost is grossly overstated due to the many ways the system is abused. When you work in health care delivery, this becomes all too clear.
Oh…how would you ever find a way to use the word convenient if it weren’t for your nemesis Al Gore?
Furthermore, how would you ever find a use for taxpayer money if it weren’t for the ‘defense’ of the country, for which funds can be construed any way that suits you? Freedom of spending!! (Only in the name of ‘defense’)
Yes, all those blood sucking leaches that didn’t pull themselves up from their bootstraps like we did. They are lazy, undeserving, probably illegal immigrants and wholly unsavory. Blah, blah, constitution.
Ultimately, in the ‘greatest country in the world,’ should people be expected to go without medical care? It doesn’t seem like the greatest country in the world then. Heck, I can get more in Sweden than I can get in the U.S. Holy crap! Socialist!
Like Patti, I agree with your list and thank you for taking the time to write it out. This HC fiasco has my whole family distraught at the ramifications and unintended & intended consequences! I have truly been having nightmares about it.
The fact that they know exactlly what they want to do to damage our lives is infuriating - all in the name of supposedly helping us - what a crock. Congress will not be subject to the same healthcare we will - that is criminal legislation & legislative malpractice!
Pelosi, et al’s intentions are clearly to socialize the country and control our lives for their power and personal gain - not at all to do anything to improve HC, that is crystal clear. The death panels, abortion, illegal aliens coverage are all in there along with 111 new bureacracies for starters - and there is so much more that will do so much harm.
We are doing all we can through letters & calls to our WA representatives, unfortunately Larsen, Cantrell, & Murray are all still ignoring the people, that do number in the majority (55% now) that say “NO” to this bill. Now Larsen isn’t even taking anymore calls - how’s that for representation?
Tea Party people, please keep at it! Strength in numbers and in the Constitution - eventually.

mb, I am in full agreement with you 100%. When are the American people going to stand up and say, “we not going to take it anymore”?
