Help Us Honor a Fallen Hero

10 November 2009 | By patti-kgmi in Uncategorized

The body of Spc. Aaron Aamot, 22, killed during active duty in Afghanistan will be flown home this Thursday, November 12th.

We would like to show Aaron and his family our heartfelt appreciation for his heroism.

The plane is scheduled to arrive at Bellingham International airport at 3:00p.m. After a color guard ceremony (approximately 10 minutes) the hearse will be accompanied by a motorcade and proceed to Ferndale.  The procession will take I-5 North to Exit 262 (Main Street) and then follow Main Street to Moles Funeral Home located at 2039 Main Street.

We want as many members of our community as we can, to line the route along Main Street.  Please bring American Flags and any signs of thanks to honor our hero.

The motorcade is expected to arrive in Ferndale no later than 3:15 p.m.

  1. Thank you Patti for this. Aaron was proud to serve his country and we are all very proud of him. The family would like to say thank you to all the Whatcom County folks who have contacted us and who have pledged their support to honor Aaron. We’d also like to ask that you keep in prayer all the men and women who are still in harm’s way defending our freedom. Thank you all - God Bless - The Aamot Family, Custer

  2. May this young American Freedom fighter’s soul now rest in the peace and arms of Jesus Christ.

Check out the movie “Taking Chance” starring Kevin Bacon, it is based on the true story by Marine Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, when one falls another brings him home.

It will give you a very heart felt appreciation of how our fallen soldiers are respected and treated upon return from the battlefield.

Ps: have the tissue ready when viewing.

The Army of Heaven is being readied for the real battle to come against the evil of this fallen world.

  3. Dear Patti - Thank you for actively spearheading the public honoring of Aaron’s life, given for us, and the Veteran’s Day ceremonies too. They are not forgotten, nor their sacrifices.

  4. My husband and I will do our very, very best to be there! God bless this Heroes family…Lord, we owe you all so much.

  5. mb73,

Thank you for the compliment but I have really done nothing except to help put out the word that our fallen hero Aaron will be returning.
KGMI has always been and continues to be an instrumental part of this community’s communication and information.

I pray we have a wonderful turn out tomorrow.

    Patti

  6. I just heard word that there has been approval to have a fly over from a Blackhawk helicopter tomorrow.

  7. Oh my gosh……..it was truly breathtaking! So many “thumbs up”, honks, friendly waves from the passerby’s on the freeway!! My husband and I and another wonderful friend took our 3×5 American flags and stood right there on the Slater Rd. overpass and waited for him. As his procession came down I-5, it got quieter and quieter. Even the little children stopped talking. The Blackhawk followed his procession perfectly in sync. The motorcycle officers came first, followed by law enforcenment vehicles, then, the family. It made you cry. It was so incredible to stand there, side by side, with patriots and grateful citizens. I only hope it brought some comfort to his family who sacrificed so much for us. Thank you and God BLESS our Hero’s and their families! We appreciate you!!

  8. Wow, looking at all of the photos of the turnout of all of the people for this young man, brought tears to my eyes.

Those who were able to turn out should be proud to have been a part of this day of Honor.

  9. I had to share this email I received at the station:
Fallen solider - how humbling. I was so impressed with the gathering on the Smith Rd overpass.

My husband ( a korean vet) and myself gathered with several somber folk.

When the procession was in clear view the vets all saluted - so very touching.

Behind us stood several (approx 8-10) young men dressed in coveralls obviously they came from work -

I had a short conversation with one - they were from a truck repair shop ( Tri - something) and they came

to pay their respect. I asked the one gentlemen if he knew Aaron - replied No -” because of him he was able

to be standing there.” I was so touched first of all to see these young men and their employer letting them leave

    to honor this young man.

So impressed with all the flags, people and the silence while waiting for I-5 to clear and then bring a young fallen hero home.

May God bless America and all those serving our country.

    Sincerely Greta
